Region 20 Names December Players of the Month
Congratulations to the December 2024 Region 20 Players of the Month. The Region reconized five student-athletes from four member institutions.
DI Men's Basketball
Kristofer Peet, So, F., Harford
Peet helped the Fighting Owls snapped a seven-game losing streak and go 3-2 in December. He averaged 16 points per game on 53.6% shooting and made 43.8% of his three-point attempts, while going 13-15 from the line. Peet also averaged 6.8 rebounds per game. On December 14, Peet was a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor vs. McDaniel JV, finishing with 15 points. On the 21st, he scored a season-high 22 points vs. Potomac State, hitting 9 of 17 shots, including a 4-for-8 effort from behind the arc with eight rebounds. Peet currently leads Region 20 Division I in FG% with 54.0 and is fifth in both PPG (13.2) and three-point percentage (52.2). He also ranks eighth in the division in points with 158 and total rebounds (61) and 10th in made three-pointers (16).
DI Women's Basketball
Madison Nimmo, So, G, Harford
Nimmo continues to lead Harford to its most successful season in five years. In five games in December, Nimmo averaged 21.4 ppg, 6 rebounds, 4.2 assists, four steals and
shot 31.4% from the floor, while hitting 81.3% of her free throw attempts. Nimmo had two 30+ point games in December, scoring 31 points with nine assists, six steals, and seven rebounds against AACC on December 11, and 30 at Baltimore City with four assists, four steals, and five rebounds. Nimmo currently leads Region 20 Division I in points (286), points per game (20.4), field goal attempts (265), assists (62), steals (43), three-point percentage (35.8), total three-pointers (38), and minutes played (552).
DII Men's Basketball
Aiden Igwebe, Fr., SF, Frederick
Igwebe stood out in December with consistent and impactful performances on both ends of the court. He started all seven games for FCC and averaged 18.4 points per in December, hitting 54.3% from the floor and 42.9% from beyond the arc. Igwebe shot a staggering 81% from the free-throw line, making 17 out of 21 attempts. The small forward scored a career-high 33 points at Garrett on December 7th, and scored in double digits in every game in December. In addition to being an offensive threat, Igwebe averaged 8.4 rebounds per game, pulling down 59 boards, two-thirds of which were on the defensive side of the court. He also added a steal and 1.6 blocks per game.
DII Women's Basketball
Gigi Gamble, So., G, CCBC Essex
Gamble averaged 25.8 points per game while shooting 54.3% for the Knights, who continued their season-long win streak with four wins in December. She shot 80% at the free-throw line and led the team in scoring in three of four games. The Knights had two Region 20 wins and defeated No. 17 Harcum and RV Bryant & Stratton (Va.). At CCBC Catonsville on December 11, Gamble scored 20 points in the first 3:47 of the game, including a 6-for-6 performance from three-point range. Gamble has had 20+ point games in seven of the last eight, and has scored 17+ points in nine-straight games.
DIII Men's Basketball
Romel Hightower, Fr., F, Penn Highlands
Hightower averaged 20.5 points, 17.5 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game in December as the Black Bears played four games. He had a pair of 25-point games and two 16-point games. He was an impressive 84.4% at the free throw line (27-32) in the month, also shooting 48.2% from the floor. Hightower led the nation in total rebounds, and ranks in the top five in rebounds per game, points, and blocks.
