January Players of the Month Announced
Congratulations to the Region 20 Players of the Month for January, 2026. The Region recognized six student-athletes from five member institutions for their success on the lanes and court.
Women's Bowling
Rachel Beeman, Fr., Westmoreland
Beeman averaged 161 pins and placed first overall in both matches in January. Her high game of 188 propelled her to a 517 series in her last match of the month.
Men's Bowling
Luke Sunny, So., Westmoreland
Sunny finished in first place overall in his second bowling match of the season before tying for first in the next match, averaging a 206 in the month of January. Sunny scored a high game of 247 twice in January.
DI Women's Basketball
Genesis Alvarez, Fr., F, Allegany
Alvarez averaged just shy of a double-double in January with 13.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. She recorded two double-doubles in January, closing out the month with a career-high 23 points and season-best 19 rebounds against Anne Arundel, where she added seven steals and three blocks.
DI Men's Basketball
Tre Powell, So., G, Harford
Powell played in nine games in January, averaging 16.2 ppg on 52.2% shooting from the field and 54.1% from 3-point range. On January 12, he set a new Harford men's basketball record for made threes, as he went 10-for-17 from behind the arc vs. Baltimore City. Two nights later, Powell was 7-for-9 from deep against CCBC Catonsville. His 86 made threes lead all of Region 20, Maryland JUCO and NJCAA Division I, while placing him second in the nation across all three divisions. He currently to break the men's basketball single season record for made threes at Harford.
DII Women's Basketball
Brooklyn Medina, So., G, Community College of Beaver County
Medina averaged 29.5 points per game, totaling 118 points in just four games in January. In her last game of the month, she tied for the third-most three-pointers in a single game in NJCAA DII by going 12-of-36 en route to a career-high 42 points and her second double-double of the month. Medina averaged 10.2 field goals and 6.8 three-pointers per game in January, while also averaging 9.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists & four steals per game.
DII Men's Basketball
Shamir Taylor, So., G, College of Southern Maryland
Taylor averaged 28.2 points per game on 54.2% shooting from the field while recording two double-doubles in five games in January. Taylor scored in double figures in every game of the month, including a 44-point outing against Louisburg College and a 34-point night against Beaver County. He averaged nine rebounds, three assists, and 3.4 steals per game while averaging just under a point per minute.
