October Players of the Month Announced
Congratulations to the Region 20 October Players of the Month. The Region recognized six student-athletes from six member institutions for excellence on the field, court, and course during the month of October.
DII Volleyball
Etta Harris, So., OH, Cecil
Harris recorded at least 10 kills in all nine matches for the Seahawks, who went 7-2 in October. She averaged 4.71 kills and 5.5 points per set in the month, and ended October by breaking Cecil's single-season kills record with her 303rd kill of the season. Against Southern Maryland on October 7, Harris tied her career high with a 26-kill performance, and later produced 23 kills in Cecil's tournament play-in win over Garrett on October 28.
DIII Volleyball
Anora Robare, So., S, Butler County
Robare led the undefeated Pioneers to their seventh-straight Region 20 championship averaging 9.52 assists per set (257 total) in October. She had a career-high 45 assists against College of Southern Maryland on October 11, and recorded 30+ assists in six of seven matches. Robare also added 16 aces and 2.78 digs per set.
DII Men's Soccer
Alvaro Acosta, Fr., M, CCBC Essex
Acosta recorded 26 points in October for the Knights, netting nine goals and adding eight assists. He recorded seven multi-point games and had a goal and an assist in the first two rounds of the Region 20 tournament.
DII Women's Soccer
Emma Miga, So., F, Anne Arundel
Miga totaled 32 points in eight games in October for the Riverhawks, whose only loss in the month was to No. 13 (DI) Monroe. Miga totaled 13 goals and six assists with five multi-goal games while putting 77.8% of her shots target. She converted her lone PK attempt in the Region 20 semifinals.
Men's Cross Country
Jesse Gresh, Fr., Carroll
Gresh opened the month at the Aubrey Shenk Invitational with a time of 26:53:50 to finish 57th overall in the 316-runner field of mostly four-year runners. He went on to win Carroll's first Region 20 DII individual title with a time of 27:35.20, finishing first among all divisions in the 8k race. Gresh helped the Carroll team to a runner-up finish at the Region 20 Championship race.
Women's Cross Country
Cassidy Cumberledge, Fr., Potomac State
Cumberledge set a PR by 2:37 at the 6k Aubrey Shenk Invitational with a time of 24:31. She followed that performance by winning the Region 20 DII Championship race with a time of 20:19, dropping almost a minute off her 5k time from the start of the season on the same course. Cassidy helped the Catamounts capture their fourth consecutive Region 20 team title.
