Region 20 Announces April Athletes of the Month

Congratulations to the Region 20 April Athletes of the Month for excellence on the field and course. We recognized eight student-athletes from six member institutions.

Baseball Division II
Yunior Pena, Fr., SS, College of Southern Maryland
Pena hit .435 through 17 games in April with three doubles and a pair of home runs. He scored 12 runs and drove in 20 runs in the month at the Hawks went 11-7. Pena had six multiple-hit games including a 3-for-4, 2 RBI performance in a win against Hagerstown. Pena was successful in all four stolen base attempts and helped turned two double plays.

Baseball Division III
Gabriel Lebron, So., OF, Prince George's
Lebron appeared in all 21 games for the Owls during the month, scoring 17 runs and recording a team-leading 25 RBI. He tallied eight doubles and had his first triple during a career-best day on April 17th during a sweep of Cecil where he finished with four runs while sending six runners across home plate. Lebron was also active in the field where he recorded 33 putouts.

Softball Division II Co-Players of the Month
Avery Sickeri, So., 2B, Frederick
Sickeri was impressive throughout April, helping the Cougars to a 12-8 record. She hit .629, had an on base percentage of .667, and slugged 1.210.  She recorded 39 hits, 18 of which were for extra bases including nine doubles and nine home runs, and totaled 40 RBI. In 65 plate appearances, Sickeri recorded zero strikeouts while drawing five walks. She recorded at least one hit in 17 of 20 games in April with 10 multi-hit performances. Defensively, Sickeri recorded 31 putouts and 26 assists at second base with just one error.

Lexi Drayer, Fr., INF, College of Southern Maryland
Drayer was a force at the plate in April for the Hawks with a 1.514 slugging percentage, a .595 batting average, and a .681 on base percentage. More than half of Drayer's 22 hits in April were for extra bases, including a staggering 11 home runs. She collected hits in 13 of 16 games, driving in 23 runs while scoring 18 herself. On the bases, Drayer successfully stole in four of four opportunities. In a game against Chesapeake on April 24, she drove in five runs on a pair of home runs. Defensively, Drayer turned two double plays while making 16 putouts and assisting 16 with a lone error.

Women's Lacrosse Co-Players of the Month
Reese Lynch, Fr., M, Harford
Lynch scored 14 goals in four games in April, putting up four goals at Genesee and five at Anne Arundel. She had 12 groundballs and 12 draw controls, nabbing a season-high five draws at AACC.

Ashlynn Deans, M, Fr., AACC
Deans scored 12 goals and assisted another in four games in April for the Riverhawks. She had 12 groundballs and 12 draw controls, adding nine caused turnovers. Deans scored a career-high five goals against Harford on April 17, including the Riverhawks' final two goals of the game in a 13-11 win.

Men's Lacrosse Player of the Month
Bradley David, So., M, CCBC Essex
David had an extraordinary month as he led the Knights to a 5-1 record and their first Region 20 championship since 2015. He was named the Region 20 tournament MVP and the Region 20 Offensive Player of the Year. David totaled 33 points on 19 goals and 14 assists in April, netting three man-up goals. He recorded 18 groundballs and five caused turnovers while producing a 70.7 shot on goal percentage. In the Region 20 title game, David erupted for six goals and an assist.

Golf
Ryan Brophy, So., AACC
Brophy earned top medalist honors in three matches in April, including at the Maryland JUCO and Region 20 Division II Championships. In his first match of the month, he tied for first in a rain-shortened, nine-hole event at South River. Two days later, he finished as runner up at Carroll. The following week, he finished one under to win the MDJUCO title, and was the Region 20 medalist at one-over the next day. At the Southeast District Championships, Brophy carded a two-under on both the second and third days to finish eighth overall earning All-District honors and an invite to the NJCAA DII National Championships.
