Region 20 Names September Athletes of the Month
Women's Soccer
Division I: Evie Heinlein, Harford
Through 10 games Heinlein has stopped 46 of 50 shots faced, allowing just four goals. She recorded eight shutouts – the highest total in NJCAA DI for the month. Heinlein boasts a .400 GAA and .927 save percentage as Harford went 7-1-2 through September. The Owls' only loss came at No. 8 (DI) Monroe College where Heinlein made 17 saves and was named NJCAA Keeper of the Week.
Division II: Megan Hinton, College of Southern Maryland
Hinton leads Region 20 DII players with 10 goals, having capped the month on a seven-game scoring streak. She had two multiple-goal games, including a hat trick against Louisburg College, and recorded two or more points in seven of nine games through the month.
Men's Soccer
Division I: Carl Romberg, Montgomery
Romberg scored 15 goals through September, tying him as the NJCAA DI national leader in goals scored. He ranked second nationally in total points (31). Romberg started his career with five goals in less than 10 minutes in his collegiate debut, and had four multiple goal games and three game-winners through September, including scoring four out of the team's five goals in a win at Howard on September 8th.
Division II: Zachary Eichelberger, CCBC Essex
Eichelberger recorded 43 points on 17 goals and nine assists in the first 11 games of the season. A consistent threat, he recorded multiple points in 10 of 11 games this season including five multi-goal games, two of those games being hat tricks. Eichelberger ranks second in NJCAA DII in both goals and points, and is tied for ninth in assists.
Division III: Chukuwma Maduwuba, Prince George's
Maduwuba leads Prince George's in goals scored through the first month of action with four. His first goal of the season helped to secure the team's first win during a 3-2 victory over Northern Virginia on September 8th and began a streak of three consecutive games with a goal. He followed up with a goal against Howard and netted a career-high two-goal performance during a 6-0 shutout victory against Hagerstown.
Volleyball
Division II: Maria Peña, College of Southern Maryland
Peña averaged 3.30 kills per set through September to lead the Hawks to a 14-2 record during the month. She also averaged 1.86 assists per set in the month as CSM opened the season on an eight-game win streak. Peña posted a season-high 24 kills on September 16 against Bryant & Stratton College (VA) in a 3-1 win, provided a season-high 34 assists on August 29 in a 3-2 win over Montgomery College, and made a season-high 24 digs against WVU Potomac State College on September 9 in a 3-1 win.
Division III: Aryana Girvan, Butler County
Girvan leads the team with 169 kills including a BC3 single match record-tying 27 against Penn State Greater Allegheny, which she amassed in just four sets. Girvan has recorded 10+ kills in eight matches for the Pioneers, who were ranked 13th in NJCAA DIII in the September 25th poll.
