Region 20 Names November Players of the Month

Congratulations to the Region 20 Players of the Month for November, 2022. NJCAA Region 20 honored six student-athletes from six different member institutions who had standout performances in the month of November, 2022.  

Men's Basketball

Division I: Tyson Oghene, Allegany

Oghene averaged 15.3 points on 44.6% shooting in November as Allegany went 8-4 in the month. The Trojans faced three ranked teams in the span, seeing the freshman guard score in double digits in each of those matchups. Overall Oghene scored in double figures in nine games, including a 36-point effort against Garrett, 26 points vs then No. 15 (DII) Niagara, and 23 against Atlantic Cape. Oghene was virtually automatic at the free-throw line, sinking 33 of 37 attempts in the month (89.2%) and including five perfect performances from the line. In addition to his prolific scoring, Oghene averaged 3.6 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 1.9 assists per game.

Division II: JayShaun Freeman, Chesapeake

Freeman averaged 13. 8 points per game on 48.5% shooting in a 4-2 month for the Skipjacks. He scored in double-digits in five out of six games in the month, and posted a 3.0 assist to turnover ratio in November. The guard poured in 18 points in the Skipjacks' season opener vs St. Mary's College JV, shooting 63.6% from the floor and a red-hot 75% from three-point range.

Division III: Jason Baker, Butler County

Baker was hot on both ends of the court in November, averaging 16.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, and a nations' best 5.5 blocks per game as Butler County went 5-1 in the month. The forward shot 52.9% from the floor, scoring in double digits over the last five games on the calendar, and recorded two double-doubles highlighted by a 16-point, 10-block performance at Penn Highlands. At Westmoreland on November 15, Baker had 26 points on a 9-of-10 effort from the floor to go with a six blocks.

Women's Basketball

Division I: Taylor Crystian, Harford

Crystian averaged 23 points per game on 38.5% shooting in November. The sophomore guard exploded for 44 points against Monroe College on November 15, shooting 50% from the floor and hitting six three-pointers to go with a perfect 12-for-12 performance at the charity stripe. Crystian also had two 20+ point performances in November, including a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double against Wake Technical CC on November 6.

Division II: Faith Blackstone, CCBC Essex

Blackstone averaged 20.9 points per game on 50.5% shooting for No. 3 CCBC Essex. Behind Blackstone, the Knights went 7-0 in November, outscoring opponents by an average of 37 points per game while facing five nationally ranked teams. The sophomore was named NJCAA DII Player of the Week in the second week of the season for averaging 21.8 points per game including a 30-point outing vs Harcum on November 9.

Division III: Vanessa Schwarzmann, Prince George's

Schwarzmann helped the Prince George's to a perfect 6-0 record during the month of November while elevating the Owls to the No. 7 spot in the NJCAA Division III rankings. Schwarzmann had the best performance of her career on November 10th against Camden County with 42 points including a 15-of-23 line from three-point territory which earned her NJCAA Player of the Week Honors for week two. Schwarzmann finished the month of November with the most made three-pointers in the nation among Division III programs with 35.
